Turntable AR-XB Modified, Upgraded with High Quality Parts, Great Sound
Submitted for your consideration a custom built turntable based on AR-XB chassis. This is a fantastic turntable with better performance than the original AR-XB.
The popular AR XB turntable had some serious issues:
The ugliest primitive tonearm with a noticeable un-damped wand resonance.
An unreliable weak motor
An unattractive and fragile plinth and dust cover
A flimsy tonearm rest
The following modifications and upgrades were done to the original AR XB turntable:
A custom modified DUAL 1219 tonearm replaces the original AR tonearm
A new A.W. Haydon motor replaces the original motor
A new suspension spring kit form Vinyl Nirvana replaced the original suspension
The original fragile tonearm rest replaced with a sturdy custom designed 3-d printed rest
A beautiful plinth and dust cover from Japanese NIVICO turntable custom modified for AR-XB. The hinges allow the dust cover to stay in open position, the dust cover is clean with few minor scratches.
A power socket and audio RCA connectors added at the back wall of the plinth
A damping material glued to the bottom of sub-chassis to control chassis resonances
A heavy ¼” platter mat installed to provide damping to the platter resonance and to increase its weight.
A new belt installed
Sumiko Oyster moving magnet cartridge with Unitron XB70S ellyptical stylus installed
This newly installed tonearm has high quality bearings, a damped counter-weigh, a precise tracking force adjustment, it provides an excellent tracking and its sound is very neutral and resonance-free. It is a better tonearm compared to the original AR tonearm. The DUAL 1200 headshell is more reliable than the fragile AR headshells.
The modified turntable sounds great, it is virtually immune to floor vibrations
The dimensions of modified AR XB turntable are 19” x 15 ½” x 7”, weight - 19 lbs
The turntable will be partially disassembled and professionally packaged to ensure a safe arrival.
Note: I have serviced and restored a variety of turntables over the last 10 years (DUAL, THORENS, LENCO, TECHNICS, SONY, REK-O-KUT, AR, etc), my feedback is excellent.
