LASTMA rescues two in Lagos car crash

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has revealed that it rescued two persons, a male and a female, from a lone accident that occurred at China Town by Conoil, inward Estate, Alapere, Ogudu, Lagos.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the lone accident involved a Venza vehicle with registration number APP 04 HE.

In a statement obtained by PUNCH Metro on Monday, the director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed that the incident was a result of a brake failure while the vehicle was in motion at high speed.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the accident was caused by brake failure while the vehicle was in motion at high speed. Losing control, the vehicle veered off the road and collided with a culvert. The crash resulted in two serious casualties, a male and a female.”
He stated that due to the immediate response of LASTMA officials and the public, the casualties were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“Swift response from LASTMA officials, with the support of well-meaning bystanders, facilitated the timely rescue of the victims. Both individuals were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving urgent medical attention.”

LASTMA’s general manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, sends well wishes to the victims of the crash and stresses the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, especially checking if the brakes are functioning properly.
“The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his concern for the injured and wished them a speedy recovery. He used the opportunity to emphasise the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly ensuring the functionality of braking systems, and urged all motorists to comply with government-prescribed speed limits.”

“As we navigate our roads daily, safety must be our priority. I appeal to all road users to carry out regular checks on their vehicles, especially the braking system, and strictly adhere to speed limits to prevent avoidable accidents,” Bakare-Oki stated.

PUNCH Metro had earlier reported that LASTMA had rescued a driver after a 40-foot loaded container fell on a Toyota Camry with the registration number LSR 293 HJ at Mile 2, en route to Apapa.
